ATSF caboose #999028 (delivery)
While sitting in the McCloud Railway yard, before the caboose could be loaded onto the lowboy trailer the four sets of steps as well as the battery box had to be cut away from the body in order to fit under several overpasses on the highway from McCloud to Weed.
The Carltons lifted the caboose body off its trucks...
...and set it down on a lowboy trailer.
The trucks (and the battery box) arrived intact, except for the wheel on the far left which fell through the wooden floor of the trailer on the bumpy ride into our property.
The crane was positioned along side of the tracks that we prepared for the caboose, jacked up with four outriggers, and levelled.
The two trucks were lifted, swung around, and lowered onto the tracks, spacing them at the same distance as their original location.
The caboose body followed, was swung around...
...and guided down over the trucks without much adjustment at all.
The new home for ATSF #999028.
